۱۱:۳۰ GMT: A Dutch plane carrying 56 people has landed in Gibraltar after landing safely on the island, according to the airport’s spokesman. The incident happened about 1.30 p.m. local time at Gibraltar’s main airport, the airport said in a statement. The crew called authorities, who had been able to contact the crew through their phones and in Spanish but had not heard back. The plane had to be brought back from the runway. The victims were all passengers from Cyprus.

The plane then proceeded to land safely on the main runway.

Spain’s authorities do not want to talk about what their data shows. “This is an open secret,” said the airport’s head, Francisco Rodriguez, after meeting with civil aviation officials in the town of Valencia. Spain also does not want international investigators to request any details on what it knows. Spain has been unable to get international data on the Tenerife-based flight for a month.

“We know nothing for sure, nothing that will not change if and when we get an answer,” said Rodriguez.

Spain’s foreign ministry confirmed that two Spanish citizens were among the 54 people aboard a United Airlines flight en route to Madrid when it crashed en route to the city of Izmir, just hours after takeoff from Madrid-Barajas Airport. The airline reportedly said it might not get off the ground in time to check on the flight, however.
