After joining an amateur team on the outskirts of the village, McLean had to leave for the big city so he could train and get better, which led to flatley being introduced to his local team-mate, John Reidy.
Reidy worked as an assistant coach at an amateur club, so there was something for everyone with the flatley group going on a first-hand study.
“All of us knew each other’s names from playing games like cricket,” flatley said.
“I know the guy is brilliant, but for some reason I’m always the guy who is the only one getting noticed.”
Flatley has also had time to play with some of his old idols including Steve Waugh and Andy Murray, and says that it’s tough to be surrounded by these legends but doesn’t feel he should feel bad for having some old pals back home.

“There are some great players there, I just don’t think I’ve played with them on the big stage since 1990.”

Flatley believes a lack of experience is the big problem at the top of the game and that with just eight games played, the larktowners need to step up and deliver something special.
“There was something with the first year I didn’t start [against Leicester],” he continued.
“I think they didn’t take my head down but I guess I was a little bit quiet because obviously I knew it wasn’t a cup game when I arrived.
