Eu climate comissioner speaks ahead of pifo summit
Eu has a climate target of limiting warming to well below 2ºC (4ºF), but the Paris agreement인천 출장 안마 only calls for limiting global temperature rise to 2.5ºC in the long term.
Eu’s goal is to meet it by 2030, which means the country has little room to act now without further climate change legislation. In addition, China is likely to increase its domestic renewable energy goals, and so too will the European Union, which hopes to take its own target beyond 2030 by 2020.
Eu’s position has drawn criticism from many allies, including the UN, as well as some European Union citizens, who believe the EU should step into the race to meet its obligations as the global warming crisis deepens.
For the past few months, the climate comissioner in charge of the Paris negotiations has been speaking up for his country. That is particularly important since the EU is not at the table for Friday’s meeting of the EU-led global climate talks in Bonn, Germany.
“The Paris Agreement is not about Europe. It is about a world that can continue to meet the climate change target without damaging the atmosphere of every living creature on the planet,” said Michel Jarraud, the Belgian climate commissioner.
Jarraud’s remarks came amid reports this week that the European Commission was pushing its members to do more to help Eu comply with its commitments.
